The staff was completely transparent about any medical issues and told me that as long as I visit their preferred vet, they'd cover any bills associated with the issues--which they did. (She had an umbilical hernia--which didn't have any effects on her health at all, just had something to do with her birth--and she also had an upper respiratory infection, which she recovered from after a week or two.) Their vet also comes into the store to examine the puppies.
The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that I do agree with the other reviews saying that the cages can be cleaner, although I think the staff they have on hand does what they can--those cages could be A LOT worse, and if you call it out to an employee, they'll go in and clean it. I think the only way the cages can be 100% clean all the time was if there was an employee completely allocated to just walking back and forth to monitor. It only takes about 5 seconds for a puppy to drop a deuce, so it's easy to check on a dog and then notice 5 or 10 minutes later that their cage is suddenly messy.
I got my pup from Petland and overall had a pretty positive experience. I had been looking into buying from breeders, but honesty, for the breed I wanted, all the breeders were charging the same price as Petland, BUT their waitlists were about a year, and Petland throws in a bunch of the essentials you need for your dog when you buy. (And they gave my dog a bath before I took her home. She smelled uh-mazing.) Plus, all the Petland dogs come from breeders that the staff visits (not sure how frequently) to make sure the conditions are humane/not mills.
Employees were a bit busy being pulled in different directions, but the puppies were happy & playful
You can tell the staff really loves the animals, and they were AMAZING about giving me a crash course in what I needed to do to take care of my dog. Sometimes I'll bring my dog back in there to get some toys, and they love seeing her.
If you want a specific breed of dog, please go to a reputable breeder. No reputable breeder would sell their puppies through this hellhole. ONLY PUPPY MILL PUPPIES HERE.
The customer service at this place is horrible. The last three times in a row that I've been there I've been left standing at the register for at least five minutes before anyone even acknowledges me. The last time I was there I got so frustrated I just put my items down on the counter and walked out.
I sure hope they treat the animals in their care better than they treat their customers.
The poor puppies are crammed into tiny wire cages and sit in their urine and feces all day. When I tried to inform staff about the situation, they brushed me off and ignored me.
I just left there today and had the same experience. There are tons of people working there and they make eye contact with me and keep on walking without offering assistance.
Don't shop here unless you absolutely have to.
Apparently, the care and well-being of their animals is second to selling and profit.
Where did they find the employees? They look like they hate being there, and they put in NO EFFORT to keep the place clean for the pets. The poor animals are laying in their poop... how dare they ask us to sanitize our hands, when there is poop and pee in the play rooms? Poor management. If the place was ran by a good manager, then they wouldn't hire such careless employees. These poor dogs have to live in tiny spaces while they walk around in their waste. I haven't been to Petland in 3 years, and after coming back now, there is no way I will be back here again. It should be illegal to have these type of businesses that are only looking for profit.
This place is awful. It is a hellhole. Animal shelters that operate as NON-PROFIT treat their animals better than this.

I went in there quite a bit to play with puppies to make sure I was (eventually) choosing the right one, and the staff was so great about never pressuring me to buy. (And the dogs there sell FAST. It was pretty much a completely new set of dogs if I went in two weekends in a row.) My dog is one of the most cheerful dogs you'll ever meet, and I honestly think that's partially due to the fact that she was exposed to a lot of different people during her time at Petland.
